Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July to everyone. We hope you are enjoying the holiday celebrating our country's birthday. In addition to this being the nation's birthday, Cheryl and I celebrate our 6th year in Douglasville. We moved to Douglasville 6 years ago of the the July 4th holiday.

Having lived in Douglasville for 6 years one would think we have experienced all the sites and events unique to Douglasville. In fact, just the opposite, we have never attended the local July 4th parade, and we have yet to check out our local fireworks show from the nearby mall. This year we made an attempt to remedy one of those missing experiences. We headed to downtown Douglasville to watch the parade. Since it was our first year we were unfamiliar with the traffic, the best place to park, the best place to sit, the distance to walk, etc. We arrived with about 30 minutes to spare...good thing since we had a "hike" to main street. At this point, I was sweaty, Abby was complaining about walking too far (and her bottle of red coke had spewed all over her outfit), Josiah was in typical form, and Cheryl was bogged down with the diaper bag. We arrived a found a nice little spot under a shade tree.

We quickly learned that we should have brought our seats, a bag for Abby, and Jo-jo's blankie. The kids were able to sit on the curb to enjoy the parade. Cheryl and I stood :( Why a bag you ask? Apparently it's like Halloween with candy getting thrown to the onlookers. Luckily someone gave Abby a bag (thanks go to that stranger). And Jo-jo's blankie, the absence of this one item cut our observation of the parade short. Josiah's single mindedness and "running" quickly ended the parade (for us). We trekked back to the car and headed home. All-in-all, it was a good time had by all. I think we might do it again next year. Maybe next year we'll get to see the fireworks as well.
